Competing in a pageant often presents itself as a potentially uncomfortable situation. You should be ready to encounter new people, face new expectations, and experience a potentially unanticipated schedule or series of events. Therefore, challenge yourself to be your best self in all pageant-relatedmoments (and in your daily life, too!) Let’s address how to find a level of comfort in new and potentially uncomfortable situations.
Stepping out of your comfort zone is necessary to learn, grow, and change. It’s in your best interests to learn to accept and even embrace those situations that might typically make you want to “cringe!” Remember, even U.S. Navy SEALS are known for the saying, “get comfortable being uncomfortable!” They use this philosophy and apply it to help themselves and their teammates grow and believe they can achieve what may seem impossible in trying situations.
Were you to remain in your comfort zone and avoid any unknown yet potentially exciting situations, that invite your courage and curiosity, then you limit your individual self-growth. Remember making a concerted effort to stretch your limits benefitsboth you as a pageant competitor and as striving for futuresuccess.
Discomfort is not fear—it’s a normal and healthy part of life. While it may feel intimidating initially, every experience teaches you something valuable. Over time, facing discomfort becomes easier as you grow more confident and capable.
Recognize and mentally label what’s making you uncomfortable and view it as an opportunity to try something new that adds to your skills and builds confidence. Embracing discomfort is a normal and healthy part of growth. Use these moments to connect with others, introduce yourself, ask questions, and be social whenever possible. Expanding your network and practicing conversational skills will not only help you adapt to new situations but also enhance your interview abilities, which are essential in pageantry.
Remember, it’s OK to not be like everyone else, so don’t try. Realize that you are not alone, and your uniqueness is your superpower. Avoid comparisons and focus your mental energy on your own unique self!
Tell yourself that the others who surround you are likely to feel the same way! Everyone is going through their own difficulties.
So, the next time you’re in an uncomfortable situation, try to remain calm. Realizing this is a positive opportunity to learn and growmakes it another step toward becoming your best self!
